ALBUM #3 IS FINISHED Hello, friends! Updates and news from the studio - Iapetus Album #3 is officially wrapped, recorded, mixed, and mastered. Nearly seven years in the making, and it’s finally done. Some people might know that The Body Cosmic was recorded in the United States, and then sent over to Fascination Street in Sweden for mix/mastering. For this new album, we decided to take the next step, fly all the way to Sweden, and record there as well; it’s an in-house Fascination Street production from top-to-bottom. A massive thanks to all our friends at Fascination Street for their incredible hospitality, dedication, expertise, and world-class equipment. This was the trip of a lifetime, and the results speak for themselves. We simply cannot wait for you all to hear this record. As for the release: now that final masters have been delivered, we anticipate dropping the new single in very near future, and the album release will follow soon after that. We will announce when things are starting to kick off! In the meantime, please enjoy this small glimpse into the two weeks abroad we spent creating this behemoth - and a special thanks again to everyone at Fascination Street that helped bring this vision to life. *** 2026 UPDATE *** Hello, friends! Happy New Year! It’s been a long time - we’re still alive (and hope you are too). With the new year upon us, we’ve decided it’s time to share some (small) news about our upcoming album and future plans. We’ve been holed away, tirelessly writing our third album - the follow-up to The Body Cosmic - for about five years now, and will be putting the final touches on it in the coming weeks. It’s been a monumental task, and we deeply appreciate all the patience shown by our friends around the world - though we also appreciate all the inquiries about new material (it keeps us motivated). It’s been a long wait for us, too. From there, we’ll be heading to the studio in March to track the record, and it will be mixed/mastered and finished shortly thereafter. We will announce an official release date the moment we have one; for now, we can only say that it will be released via @willowtiprecords , and that we’re thrilled to have them at our backs. Go give them a follow if you haven’t already! More exciting: we’ve gathered an absolutely phenomenal cast of guest musicians to help complete our vision, and cannot wait to announce their involvement. This is the biggest and most expansive record we’ve ever created, and it has taken many talents, from all over the world, to bring it fully to life. We’re eager to share more when the time is right. All other details - track listing, album cover, etc… - will be announced later this year. We’ll be dropping a new single, too. Only a few more months to go. Lastly, we’ve received a large number of requests for The Body Cosmic reprints on CD and Vinyl, so we want to address that here: any potential reprints (there are none currently planned), will only happen after the new album releases - so stay tuned to our socials for possible announcements. Hello, friends! Surprising news - we’ve just discovered a long-forgotten stash of old promo copies of The Long Road Home - and we want them to be yours! These are printed in single Jacket Sleeve cases, and they are EXTREMELY RARE. There are only 50 of these available. It will also - in all likelihood - be the last ever opportunity to own The Long Road Home in a physical format. Years ago, we used to camp outside of metal shows in New York City, and hand these promo CDs out to passing concert-goers. They were the first physical media printed in the band’s history. Only a small handful have ever been made and given to the public. The author Cormac McCarthy passed away today. His book Blood Meridian not only had a profound personal impact on us, but became an indelible part of Iapetus history. The first time we explored this work was in the song "Eviscerate Divine," which was an allegorical delve into the concept of human violence that McCarthy contemplated in Blood Meridian. He spoke of violence as an art-form - an innate and uniquely human expression - a craft that ironically kills the craftsman as it is completed. As we wrote in the song: "the masterpiece cannot coexist with its maker / at the final stroke, art annihilates the artist." The second time we explored this work - more explicitly - was in "The Star of Collapse." Both spoken word passages in that song are taken from Blood Meridian; they express a belief that to die in violence is to fulfill the inevitable promise of humanity; that violence is our beginning and our end; that no one is coming to save us from ourselves; that no one can. Here is one of those passages: "If God meant to interfere in the degeneracy of mankind, would he not have done so by now? Wolves cull themselves, man. What other creature could? And is the race of man not more predacious yet? The way of the world is to bloom, and to flower, and die, but in the affairs of man there is no waning, and the noon of his expression signals the onset of night. His spirit is exhausted at the peak of his achievement. His meridian is at once the darkening and the evening of his day." - Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian Our 3rd album is still in progress, and taking solid shape - perhaps Mr. McCarthy will find his way onto this one, as well. Hello, friends! Hope you’ve all been healthy, safe, and prosperous out there - been some time since we chatted, and we miss you all dearly. Just wanted to briefly break our self-imposed social media exile to give a small update: we are alive, we are working on the third album, and we are, I think, writing some of the best tunes of our career. Here you can find some super brief, super early, super demo-y samples of new music (the first public clips ever!) - some proof of concept, if you will. So while it may still be some time before the album is actually launched, just know that it is coming, and we think it’s gonna be pretty cool. We've been quiet, lately - and will continue to be (while we work on new material) - but we did want to acknowledge a special anniversary! The Body Cosmic was released two years ago today, and forever changed our trajectory as a band. Drop your favorite tracks, lyrics, moments, and memories down below!

This is kind of an odd, difficult post to write - but the news of this was devastating, and we wanted to pay our respects. A few weeks ago, after receiving The Body Cosmic vinyl package, the mother of one of our fans - Elliot Miller - reached out to inform us that Elliot had taken his own life. He never got to see what we'd sent him. Elliot was one of our biggest supporters - in fact, he had pledged at the Multiverse Tier during our vinyl campaign - the highest possible Tier, available only to 4. It destroys us to know that he never got to see the end result - but we also take solace in the fact that, in a very direct way, he was responsible for funding a project that brought happiness to so many others. According to his mother, Elliot was an all-around, die-hard music lover, and supported tons of artists and acts from all over the world. In that way, I think, through the art of music, and the music he supported, his influence will live on. For whatever reasons he left us, he left us better than we were before. Each of the Multiverse supporters received a unique pencil sketch from Tom Roberts - below is a picture of Elliot's; the soldier of eternity. I don't want to place any value judgments on the act of suicide, or wax sentimental about the value of life, but at the heart of our music also lies a fitting, scientific truth: that the matter which comprises all life on Earth was forged in the furnaces of dying stars - and when a human being dies, that matter is not destroyed, it merely takes a different form, returning first to the Earth, and then ultimately back to the cosmos from whence it came. In a very real sense, Elliot has not left us - he's only assumed a different space in that eternal, cosmic cycle. Thank you, friend, for all the support you've shown us and others - and may you rest easy, free of all distress, as you wander that long road home. If you, or anyone you know, have also considered taking their own life, please know that there are always those willing to listen, to hear you, and to remind you of your worth. The Long Road Home turns 4 years old today! This album was written, recorded, mixed, and mastered over the course of 6 years, mostly in bedrooms and basements, on maybe the smallest budget in music production history - but, despite those limitations, it still managed to kickstart this crazy journey, introduce us to a ton of new friends, and catapult us into the global metal scene - in a way that we didn't previously think possible. For those reasons alone, it will forever be an integral part of Iapetus history. What are your favorite tracks or moments from our debut?

Two years ago today, we hit the studio with the great @machinejk76 to record The Body Cosmic, which turned out to be, without a doubt, one of the best experiences of our lives. Swipe right for some unseen footage from that glorious week.

Believe it or not, we've gotten more than one question this week about the spoken word samples in "The Star of Collapse." So let's put the mystery to rest! These are both excerpts from the book Blood Meridian, by Cormac McCarthy, which has been an inspiration to much of our music. The entirety of "Eviscerate Divine" from our first record was written about this book, as well.
